We are delighted to share the recipient of this year's Sonny Stomp Award, a recognition named after the late Sonny Stomp. Sonny, along with his wife, was the proud owner of a sporting goods store in Kingsville. Beyond that, he played pivotal roles as a Kingsville Gosfield South Minor Baseball executive, sponsor, and coach, leaving a mark on the town's community, arena, and ball diamonds. Since his passing in 1990, the award has been dedicated to individuals and businesses contributing to the Kingsville Minor Baseball Association with the same heart and passion that defined Sonny.
Kara, Ian, and their team at Murray Insurance have earned this recognition for their unwavering dedication to leveling the playing field for young female athletes in Kingsville. Their journey began when they noticed striking inequalities in local youth sports, particularly between boys' and girls' teams. As an almost all-female professional team, they embrace the mentality of "Women supporting Women" and were spurred into action.
From January 2023 onwards, Murray Insurance has exclusively sponsored female athletics and academics. Their impactful initiative, "Count Her In," debuted on International Women’s Day, raising $1200 for KMBA. This generous contribution facilitated the establishment of a Fastpitch league, providing essential equipment for young girls interested in baseball.
Their mission is clear: ensure equal opportunities for girls in sports and academics. Murray Insurance aspires to be synonymous with positive change for young females. This marks just the start of their journey, and the community eagerly anticipates the meaningful impact Team Murray Insurance will have on the lives of local girls in 2024!
